May 11th Deadline for Park District Letters of Intent For Commissioners Seat

Effective April 30, 2016, Mr. Timothy Powers is no longer a Midlothian Park District Commissioner due to health reasons.

Pursuant to Illinois State laws, the Park District does not have to hold a special election to fill the vacancy and is permitted to appoint someone to complete the term of the seat (which is up in 2017).

This is a great opportunity for a Midlothian resident to step up and get more involved with the Park District as the selection process is slightly different than the common election process.

Interested parties must compose what is called a “Letter of Interest” for Board review and consideration.  While the Board members may have final say, the public has open opportunity to voice a vote with the Commissioners by showing support for a specific individual…or multiple in this case, as there are no restrictions as to how many candidates you can say you want to fill the vacancy.

This letter should contain information similar to what one might write for a job in a corporate setting.  It should be presented professionally and polished and contain both a summary of why you are interested in accepting the short-term responsibilities of a Park District Commissioner as well as bullet-points outlining what you hope to bring to the job.

All candidates should be aware of the Village’s Rain Ready plan and have ideas on how the Park District can both cooperate and initiate storm water solutions throughout the Village.

Time obligations are part-time, with mandatory meetings on every second and third Thursday of the month (exceptions are provided for).  Quality of effort matters more than the total number of hours spent performing the job duties.

Candidates should consider setting up a web site or a social media site to interact with the public as there is option to run for the seat in the 2017 elections is available.

Board of Commissioners to Fill Vacancy*

The Midlothian Park District is looking for a Midlothian resident interested in filling a vacancy on the Board of Commissioners. The park code requires that Commissioners be residents of the Midlothian community for at least one year. Interested parties should submit a letter of interest to the Board of Commissioners of the Midlothian Park District by 4 p.m. on May 11. Letters can be mailed to the Don Preston Recreation Center at 14500 S. Kostner, Midlothian, IL 60445 or dropped off at the front desk. Please mark the envelope “Commissioner Applicant”. Applicants should indicate why they are interested in the position and what they hope to bring to the position. The Board of Commissioners meets on the second and third Thursday of the month at 7:00 p.m. at the Don Preston Recreation Center located at 14500 S. Kostner.

The Board of Commissioners will consider all applicants and may or may not interview candidates before making a final decision. The final candidate will be approved by a majority vote of the Board of Commissioners. The seat will be up for election in the spring of 2017 for a full six year term.
